Ryunosuke Akutagawa (1918) Published by Kodansha International(1987), The Spider's Thread and other stories, Translated by Dorothy Britton I forgot writing about this book I read last week so I'm talking about it. I introduce "The Spider's Thread" written by Ryunosuke Akutagawa in 1918, Taisyo period. "One day, the Lord Buddha was taking a stroll beside the Lotus Pool in Paradise." This famous line begins this story. From the lotus pool, the Lord Buddha can see the hell where many sinners are suffering. The Lord has a kindness so attempted to help someone. And "Kandata" was chosen by the Lord Buddha. He was one of the sinner in the hell but only once, he did good conduct that saved life of a spider before being sent to the hell. The Lord had already know his this behavior. Therefore, the Lord decided to save his life by hanging spider thread. The Lord wanted him to climb to the top of the Lotus Pool by the spider thread. H
